No-miss steak
Hello again! We've been away from this blog for a while, and the only excuse we have is that it's summer and there are so many other things to be done. It's a big period of change for us and unfortunately the blog just hasn't been at the top of our priorities for a while. Visibility for the months ahead has improved somewhat so we'll make an effort to resume a more regular update schedule for this blog.
Anyhoo, here's a steak dinner we had one night. We'd bought a pretty sizable piece of beef the other day because Kenneth thought he'd try again to make steak. The truth is, we'd never been successful with steak. Previous attempts were either too rare or too chewy. But after two years of watching cooking shows on public television and words of advice from Meatmeister Trevor, we thought we'd put some fire to some loins once again. This time it actually turned out pretty well. We cooked the steak in a 425 degree Fahrenheit oven for about 20 to 25 minutes with a bit of salt and pepper and then let the steak rest for another five to 10 minutes. We like our steak well done, so the one you see in the picture was actually just nice. We took the scrapings from the steak and made a sauce with mushrooms. Then we cooked rice with a bit of salt, chives and a bit of butter for taste. The steak was nice, but Kenneth really digged the chive rice.
