Ring of prawns

We were supposed to meet some friends to go to a Chinese restaurant Saturday night, but we ended up pulling out at the last minute. Here's what we had instead.

The prawns, the stars of the meal, were seared with a light sprinkling of salt and pepper, then paired with a mayonnaise-teriyaki sauce that Kenneth picked up from a Japanese restaurant in Singapore. We really dig that sauce. The salad was mango, raisin, walnut and lettuce. The soup, clam chowder, was carefully prepared by opening a can of Campbell's and heating it over a gentle flame.

We used the shell of the shrimp to make a fragrant stock, and when our friend, the Manchine Sybor, came to visit later that night, he sniffed it and asked, "Wah, what's that?"
